NNTP Firewall problems

I work for a company (not the one I am sending this from) which
does not allow NNTP through their firewall. In the past I have
worked around this by telnet’ing into quics using a SecureID to
get past the firewall. That is allowed primarily for someone outside
the firewall to get in, but it works both ways. I then ran tin
on quics.qnx.com. With the new system this no longer seems to
work.

It never worked very well because new postings were edited on the
QNX side which meant slow network echo’s, but it dit work.

Is there anything that can be done to allow me access from that
site, short of me getting them to change their firewall.
Another newsgroup I follow is associated with wwww.wxpython.org
and they have a method of viewing the existing news with
HTTP/HTML and posting new messages with email to a specific
address. I think the do this for security reasons, but it would
solve my problem. Even being able to read messages that way but
not post new ones would be very helpful, as I learn alot by doing
so.

I had similar problem. Contact your IT department and find out if they
have SOCKS server. If so, you’ll need SOCKS client for your workstation
and that solves it. We use Aventail here at Motorola.

I’m sucking my news with a SSH client trough the firewall on the normal
telnet port, is that an option for you?
