frame grabber opinions?

My frame grabber experience is a little moss-grown (Targa-16, MS-DOS!)
and I wonder what the state of this topic is in the qnx world.
( I know nothing much about qnx but have become interested since
the freebie was promised. )

Matrox Meteor & clones? Meteor II ? Color boards that can do
at least 5-5-5 ?

I use the Imagenation PXC200L. They have drivers for QNX & Windows
& NT. I have had no problems with them and they have answered
all of my questions quickly and completely. They run about $400 US.
They handle up to 4 cameras at 640x480 and the output is RGB16 and
RGB 24 but I think they may only do YUV 4:2:2 internally. I have never
used these for image processing but only for security systems and
image capture for display (on CRT).

Matrox currently supports only QNX4 (not the freebie) on the Genesis-LC,
which is actually a nice little board with integrated VGA. It’s on their
website.
They seem to be very grudging in their support of QNX, and they only did a
driver for the one board because of a very high volume buyer with sufficient
leverage to force the issue. They would prefer to sell you complete
“solutions” on NT, complete with their NT software.
This impression I have from the representative from Matrox who came to
visit, to try to “talk sense” into me to use embedded NT, although this was
a year ago and things may have changed.

i’d also speak against Matrox boards. Around two years ago we tried to
use Meteors with QNX 4 and Nick Costescus driver. The driver was fine,
but the hardware is a piece of crap IMHO. They did not run in any
actual PCI Mainboard (not the normal Meteor nor the “PPB” version).
That cost us a lot of time … and money >:-[
Finally i wrote a driver for (low-cost) Bt848 boards. Used it with a
Hauppauge (COTS, at least here in germany) card without problems.

BTW: if there’s anybody still interested in two Matrox Meteor cards,
only slightly used, in the original box with cables, FOR SALE!
