Good C editor or IDE?

Waht is the best editor under QNX to edit C files?

Is there a equivalent of CForge (IDE under Linux) under QNX?

Thanks,

Yannick Willener

VIM (from “Vi IMproved”). From the latest announcement (5.7):

What is Vim?

Vim is an almost 100% compatible version of the UNIX editor Vi. Many
new features have been added: Multi level undo, syntax highlighting,
command line history, filename completion, block operations, etc.
Those who don’t know Vi can probably skip this message, unless you
are prepared to learn something new and useful. Vim is especially
recommended for editing programs.

Vim runs on almost any Unix flavor, MS-DOS, MS-Windows 3.1,
MS-Windows 95/98/NT/2000, OS/2, Atari MiNT, BeOS, VMS, RISC OS,
Macintosh and Amiga.

For more information, see “http://www.vim.org”.

If you already have Unix experience you’ll of course know vi. If not,
there are good resources on the net, and the learning curve is steep!

IMHO, a good editor (which one learns and uses for every editing
task, such as this NNTP posting, programming, writing documents,
letters etc. etc.) like vim + make + standalone debugger is much
better than any IDE i’ve tried. From within vim you can run “:make”,
step from error to error in different source files, jump to function/
variable/ Macro definitions (with ctags) and much more. But anyway,

  • KDevelop should run on QNX + QNXFree86
  • german company becom (http://www.becom.de/) is working on an IDE
    for QNX 4 and Photon

Oh, and if you’re looking for an operating system with editing capa-
bilities, emacs is supposed to run on QNX also (sorry, couldn’t
resist ;^)

Thanks,

Yannick Willener

Edelhard

#define ESRCH 3 /

#define EINTR 4 /

#define EMACS 666 /

I’ll second the VIM recommendation.

VIM (from “Vi IMproved”). From the latest announcement (5.7):

Well I vote for Vedit Plus from Greenview (www.vedit.com).

Of course this depends on whether you are running on QNX4 or NTO/QRTP since
AFAIK Vedit hasn’t been ported to NTO yet.

Hello,

C-Forge is in the process of being ported to QNX. In answer to some
of the replies below, the built-in editor can be launched as a
standalone application from the command-line.
