Client Side Cache (Csc) - Is it still a QNX product ?

Hi

I have been advised to use the Csc program for diskless workstations, but
cannot find any references to the utility in the QNX 4.5 help documentation.
Is it a QNX product and if so, is it still a supported product or has it
been replaced ?

Any information on this utility would be appreciated.

Cheers
Peter

It’s been long gone I beleive, and there is no replacement.

Really? Huh. I guess no one wanted to support it.

I still use it with 4.25 quite successfully.

Bill,

“You da man!”

I don’t think that thee have been ANY real innovations in Fsys since you
left.

How is sunny FL treating you anyway?

Well, there is Fatfsys (or whatever it is called).

Wonderful. Thanks for asking.

In November I sold my aging pickup and bought a motorcycle (2000 Triumph
Sprint ST in Sapphire Blue, complete with hard luggage). I ride it
everywhere. I’ve got around 4500 miles on it, but I’ll be adding
another 2000 miles or more in the next 3 weeks! My wife has a bike too
(not the one she wants, but given time she’ll get the right one) and the
kids both have helmets.

I’ve gotten back to scuba diving. I took a refresher while my daughter
(age 12) took the course. Then for Father’s Day we dove together in the
Gulf for the first time – 2 reef dives. It was my best Father’s Day
ever!

My son went to golf camp, and my wife wants to take it up too.

And of course there is my job. It keeps me too busy to have as much fun
as I want. But isn’t that always the way?

Cool! But I bet you can’t carry as many computers on the back of that
motorcycle.

Now where have I heard that before? Oh Yeah, from me.

We are looking at using Csc with 4.25 as well, except that it doesn’t handle
fcntl F_SETLK commands. We are using the MIX ISAM database libraries in a
program that is to be run on a console processor, but the MIS code sets
reads locks on the file which Csc doesn’t accept. Has there been un update
to Csc to handle this by any chance ?

I am using Csc version 4.23D Aug 16 1996

As if I’d interested in mobile computing – I bike to escape. Although
a GPS would be cool!

I’m running version 4.24A Mar 31 1997 – a bit newer than the version
you have. This version was built while I was still working for QSSL, so
I’d guess there have been 0 updates since I left in the summer of '97.

I don’t remember putting in support for locking. I remember thinking
about it and concluding it was somewhat non-trivial.

One solution is really a work-around. Use Csc’s configuration file to
ignore (redirect) requests for those database files. Then Csc will
cache all other read requests but attempts to open the database files
will go direct to the remote filesystem as will the lock requests –
everything will work just fine.

If you need help setting up the configuration feel free to contact me
directly.
