Hi,

Maybe it’s time to have a comp.os.QRTP newsgroup to prevent confusion in
messages, isn’t it ??

bye,

… and it shouldn’t be. It is a development platform. It should
have everything a developer expects, memory usage be damned…

As for a run-time system it (Neutrino/Photon that is) should be
compact (and it is).

Also, with the exception of memory use. The development platform
should be behaviourally identical to the run-time system on the
same hardware (which it is).

Yup; but I would think the name should be comp.os.qnx.platform
(the real-time being implicit in anything QNX).

Not yet, but wait until the release date…
Guess if this group is going to be flooded by people like me, who thinks a
windows install is advanced >

But you have to deal with me, I have this old 486 comp, that people has
told
me to throw away, but I won’t, it is still just a few years old to me.

I tryed installing linux, solaris, and the loads, the fact is that it
still
works best running W95 (or QNX?).

I tryed the 1.44 QNX demo, but it doesnt detect the NIC, the keyboard
doesnt
work and stuff like that, so I’m hoping that with QRTP, those problems
will
be gone. (as far as I understand, the demo is not Neutrino)

I still think that if someone can make a Extreme small footprint OS, there
is a huge market for it, in less rich countries, and for me (a less rich
guy)

QRTP is NOT small footprint memory wise
I doubt you could use all the features if you have only 32 Megs.

Is there any “system requirement” spec for the QRTP?
I’m planning to use it as a desktop OS, with GUI, webbrowser, and if
possible, a game or two…
I got a 486 80MHz, with 24Mb memmory, would this be enough?
Would it be slow? fast enough? Faster then the same comp running W95? A
blasting rocket compared to W95?

Comparing it with W95 is not yet fair, the number of application is very
limited. Games? Aside from Doom I don’t think you should expect
Quake III to run a a 486 80Mzh, what ever the OS…

Webbrowser though you might be ok.

I tryed a Linux distr (redhat) and found it painfully slow, nowadays
Redhat
won’t run on less then pentiums I guess (I know thats the case with
Mandrake, cause I bought that for my 486, without reading the info first,
and the salesperson recomended it for my 486)

So be prepared to answer questions in the NG…

Janne // I still havent done the install of windows, I have looked at my
keyboard, and havent found the one marked “any” wich I am supposed to
press…

I don’t see where anyone would have a problem with 32M RAM???
We run QNX, TCP/IP, and PHOTON on 16M systems and can
run several PHOTON processes at once. 32M leaves use with
plenty of room.
I agree, on development systems memory should never be an issue.
