which c++ developer to use with QNX 4.24?

Hello!

I want to program an application for
controlling a robot in realtime using a
PC with QNX 4.24.

I tried to use the WATCOM-Compiler,
but I´d prefer a “all in one solution”.

I´m searching a development tool
which is similar to MS DEV C++ Studio for WIN.

(automatic colors for Keywords, online-help-functions, integrated
compiler, linker etc…)

Shall I use twIDE or CodeWarrior from Metrowerks?
Does the CodeWarrior run with QNX 4 or
do I need another special OS called “QNX neutrino” ?

Or is there another, better tool you can recommend?

Please help me!
Thank you!

QNX is now up to QNX 4.25D (upgrade is free)

Never tried any of the two.

CodeWarrior is for NTO only. CodeWarrior might be
what you are looking for as far as IDE is concerned.

Or is there another, better tool you can recommend?

It appears you are looking for “simplicity”, for QNX4 you
won’t find anything out of the box. There are ways to acheive
it but most required some level of tweaking.

Please help me!
Thank you!

Hi Ingo,
I do a lot of research in using QNX4 and Neutrino in robot control. I’m
curious - what type of robot do you want to control?

I tried to use the WATCOM-Compiler,
but I´d prefer a “all in one solution”.

I´m searching a development tool
which is similar to MS DEV C++ Studio for WIN.

I had a quick glance at twIDE, it looks nice, but I don’t have any further
experience. See http://www.becom.de for twIDE

I would definitely use the real-time platform RTP (which is based on
Neutrino) for your development, as this is the main QNX product now. Also,
it is very easy to port Linux software to the RTP, so they are a lot of
ports from Linux already there, in progress or coming out soon… For
example, the DDD debugger is already available.
Most important point: The RTP is free for non-commercial use. It will be out
end of September.
See http://getqnx.com

BTW, I’m developing code without IDE, and it’s not so bad  Gives you a lot
of flexibility in the makefiles.

Developing a robot control system on QNX is an extensive task - if you need
some packages that support you, look at the software of QRTS:
http://qrts.com
http://qrts.com/qrts/products/qmrtk/
http://qrts.com/qrts/products/qmotor
QMotor and the QMotorRTK are avaible for QNX4 and will be soon available for
the RTP

Ingo,

I am controlling a fast robot with QNX 4.25. I used X just to have a
decent editor. I used nedit 5.1 which has syntax highlighting.

We are evaluating twIDE at the moment. There is a demo version freely
available from the becom site. However, it is quite buggy and works only
under Photon 1.13. It does look quite promising though. I am not
an IDE guy but the look and feel is great, and I developing became much
easier after porting my project to twIDE. I asked the becom guys when
it will be available and it appears to be still in early beta stage.
And there is no price tag yet.

MS DEV works well if you set up a Samba server on the QNX box. One of
our students is using this setup now. Of course you have to write
your Makefile by hand and compile and debug on the QNX box.
Phindows is quite helpful in this case.

I have just recently looked at kdevelop under linux. It is a full-blown
IDE and one should be able to cross-develop from linux or marry kdevelop
with the watcom compiler somehow. Has anybody done that?
Would be an interesting alternative for cross developing for
Neutrino as well.
