What is Xphoton

Hello All,
I have seen “xphoton” referred to several times in this newsgroup and
on the QNX website, but I have never found a clear definition of what
exactly it is. Is “xphoton” just an an old name for phinx? Is it an
X-server that runs under photon? I am hoping that “xphoton” is a way to
run X-Windows apps on a Neutrino box, as I would like to move from QNX4
to Neutrino before the older OS is completely abandoned, but I have a
number of X GUIS that I don’t want to port to native Photon
applications. Could someone please fill me in or point me in the
direction of the proper documentation?

Thank You,

Mark Faust

Hmmm. There seems to be plenty of support for existing, stable QNX4
installations, but it has been a pain lately to set up new systems. I
have had to work to find recent, readily obtainable video and SCSI cards
that are definitely supported.

Thanks again for the info,

Mark

For the moment the list of hardware supported is almost the same between
the two. NTO has a bit less.

Thanks again for the info,

I just read a post in another conference that says PCMCIA Card bus will
not be supported under QNX4 ( I assume this means will NEVER be supported).
So maybe you shoud hurry, lol!

Hmmm… I’d just got my hands on RTP. I wonder if I can run any X program on
RTP through XPhoton. Can I run X programs linked on Linux? Is it possible to
compile X programs on RTP?

Thanks!

You must recompile the program first.

You could run an X program linked on Linux if it was build with the QRTP
libs
and hearder i guess.

Thanks!
