QNX Neutrino vs. QNX 4.0

Hi,
Can someone tell me what are the differences between QNX 4.0 and QNX
Neutrino.

Thanks,
Avi.

The differences are extensive, go on qdn.qnx.com and read the
architecture document of both OS

Hi,
Can someone tell me what are the differences between QNX 4.0 and QNX
Neutrino.

Come on, I just posted an answer to this question about 12 hours before this
post was made.
This is what is said:

Hello !

Can you tell me some main
differences between QNX 4 and QNX Neutrino?

There are many many differences. The best course of action is to read the
first chapter of the System Architecture Guides for both QNX4 and Neutrino.
http://support.qnx.com/support/docs/index.html is where you will find the
online manuals.

Gary

Thanks,
Avi.

Gary,

I read his question differently than yours. It could easily
take a day to go through the system architecture guides for the
first time and figure out the differences. This still might
not have answered some pertinent questions, such as which
should I use for a project due in three months.

As to not spend hours going over the two architecture guides
for exact details. I will try to go over the basics.

The initial differences would be that QNX/Neutrino fully supports
threads, thus eliminated the one of the sticky spots of porting
UNIX/Linux apps to QNX. As well QNX/Neutrino was designed to
be easy to port to other architectures, both LE and BE.

As far as the other differences that make life easier would
be much better driver architectures using shared libraries
for protocols and drivers. Thus making it a lot easier for QSS
to provide DDKs and for you to write device drivers.

As far as message passing, it is now connectection oriented.
The really coolthing there is that the connection id is also
the FD!

And the last point I will mention is QNX Native Networking in
QNX/Neutrino (QNet) is more robust and sits on top of IP so it is
routable where FLEET on QNX4 is completely proprietary packets.
In fact QNet is also a shared library as is TinyTCPIP and TCPIP
so it is loadable on the fly.

Again this is a very very brief discription.

These are almost exactly the same question. I will grant you that one
question has the word “main” in it.

The person who posted this question wanted to know “the differences”. The
best way to discover the differences would be to read the System Architecure
books or get in touch with QNX themselves.

This still might

Hours? Slow reader?

System Architecuture guides have more information… oh wait that’s not an
option anymore… um… hmm…

Actually, the person who asked this wanted to know if “you” or “someone”
could tell the poster what the [main] differences between QNX 4 and
QNX Neutrino are.

The answer is yes.

Yeees we figured that out…
