adding new users

Hi,

Can you add users to QNX RTP?? I see there is chmod & chown and gid’s
etc but can’t see any way to add another user other than root.

What about man pages??

Have been flicking through www.qnx.com and www.qnxstart.com but can’t
really find a good resource for standard sysadmin type tasks.

TIA,
Chris.

use passwd

‘passwd’ will add a new user to the system, i.e. if you
type ‘passwd existing_user’ it will change the password
for the existing user but if you use ‘passwd new_user’
it will create the user “new_user” and then change the
password for him/her.

passwd and useradd/adduser in the same program

Also, remember to add the new user(s) group to /etc/group.

You can get basic usage info by typing “use command”
No text-based man pages (I think) , just the Photon helpviewer.

now that’s a wierd one… One would think passwd would be used to
change one’s own password… and adduser would add a user… Why
would QNX do it this way? (just curious)

guess your right, but figure they were thinking of combining multiple
feature with one command. Just like “mv” can be used to rename a file
or move a file. Must admit I was looking for adduser or something
similar though.

Another good resource is the QNX Developer’s Network (QDN) knowledge base at
http://support.qnx.com.
This issue is now available at:
http://support.qnx.com/support/bok/solution.qnx?10040
See also: http://support.qnx.com/support/docs/index.html

The Search engine is available to search both the knowledge base and online
documentation.
