I’ve installed QNX (free version) on my HP Pavilion PC. Now installation
went fine, I installed it on my second (slave) harddrive. Now after
installation I reboot the machine add QNX to XOSL (boot manager) but when I
choose to go into QNX, it locks up at “Press ESC for .alt …” (I’m at work
so I can’t remember exactly the opening boot line). Now QNX will boot fine
if I install as a file under WinME and use the boot disc but booting from
the HD partition, it didn’t seem to like.
System Specs:
HP 6475z
Celeron 466
96MB SDRAM
15Gig Primary (WinME [3Gig] & Win2000 [4Gig])
20Gig Slave (BeOS [3Gig] & QNX [4Gig])
3Com 3C509 ISA N.I.C
SB Live!
3Dfx Banshee
If anyone has any ideas what could be my problem then please let me know…
I’m anxious to get this beauty running (without boot disk)
Sincerely,
Jason Pratt

Hi Jason,
This may be due to the DMA Access mode for your hard drive, try running the
DMA Disabled version of QNX, it could solve your problem

How do I disable DMA on a partition install. It runs fine under a Windows
install with the boot disk. Suggestions?

Hi Jason,
I’ve been hoping someone would answer your question, because I’m having
exactly the same problem.
FWIW, it doesn’t seem to be directly related to the hardware because mine is
very different from yours:
Abit BP6 Dual C366
128Mb RAM
20 G Primary (Windows/Linux etc)
20 G Slave (QNX)
Intel 100+ NIC
SB AWE 64 ISA
TNT2 Based Video
The only thing that seems similar is that we’re both running QNX on the
slave, not that that should matter. I’ll try running on Master at some
stage (if someone doesn’t answer this thread first…)
Regards,
Paul
