Good morning QNX users,
I’m looking for data acquisition and control cards that are supported
but QNX running on a PC?

I am having the same problem. I want to use QNX for real time control but
none of the data acquisition cards that I am using (frame grabber card and
multifunction I/O card) have QNX drivers. I presume the only way around the
problem is to write my own drivers. Does anyone have experience of doing
this? I’m not sure if it is feasible without a lot of cooperation from the
card manufacturers. Perhaps if I can find source code for Linux drivers
then I could modify it. Any thoughts on this QNX experts?
Thanks.

Options:
1 - Get the spec of the boards
2 - Get the linux source code if available, but check the provenance, if
it’s reverse enginering
I wouldn’t rely on this for commercial product
3 - Get hardware with driver
Thanks.

For DAQ cards, people generally write their own drivers. They are
typically fiddly programming with the IO ports, which can be written
and read using the inp, outp, inpw, outpw calls. People’s use of DAQ
cards is such that a general purpose driver is probably vast overkill,
and may not meet the specific usage pattern that you want.
Frame grabber drivers are not popular items because they take a long
time to write, and there are no facilities in Photon 1.14 for good
real-time video output. It would be valuable to have such drivers
(they can range in complexity from fairly easy to really difficult to
write), but the market probably isn’t there to build a business case
on.
If you are writing your own drivers, I suggest you start from scratch,
possibly using the Linux code to verify your initialization code.
Linux kernel modules and QNX drivers have a lot of philosophical
commonality, but not much code commonality.
