X10 devices on RTP

Hi folks,

I’ve been using RTP after waiting for it all summer, and it’s great!

I am currently the maintainer of a library called XAL (X10 Abstraction
Library) and tonight I started porting it over to QNX/RTP. Pretty
simple really, not much porting to do.

At any rate, the library supports the following devices:
CM17 (firecracker), CM11, CP290, TWSER

I only have a CM17 on my system. If anyone has any of the other devices
and would like to test out the library that would be great.

I’ve also started writing an X10 resource manager (with the help of
TFM) which can be used to control the devices. Currently I have it set up
as just /dev/x10 and you can write on and off commands for a CM17 to it.
It will be more complete in the next few days.

If anyone wants to test out my current code you can get it and the resource
manager from http://wizard.dynup.net/~kain/x10qrtp . I’ll keep that updated
daily until I think the changes are ready to go in the distribution, at
which point I’ll incorporate it into the main XAL site which is at
http://xal.sourceforge.net .

Hopefully some of you will find this usefull

Thanks,
Scott

Hmmmm … do we see the potential here for the following:

Touch screen flat display
Control from Touch screen of home alarm, all x10 devices
Weather station integration inside and outside, including real time tie with
service such as “Weatherbug”
Big Red panic button which uses x10 services to:

call the police
call fire dept
call an ambulance
effect an immediate “Hey Rube - I Tell You Three Times” system to engage
and destroy home invasion police/thugs/federal agents

Record keeping audit trail of electricity, gas and water services
Note taking for parents and kids to leave and send messages, notes, pages
Telephone answering with voice mail and forwarding to various kids, parents

Just Wondering … maybe this is already thought of and done…

Regards,

Dave
