About QNX.

You know, QNX is a real good OS, as UNIX like OS. But theres only one
problem, it has a lack of network card capabilities. Like I use
LinkSys, it QNX doesn’t support it. I wanna know if theres any drivers
for LinkSys or a QNX patch that will support more network cards in the
future? Like the one I have is like compatable with such popular
platforms like Windows and Linux. So, Whats the whole point of having
QNX and not able to connect to the internet because of the card you
have is not supported?

Good point, but I dont think QNX is targeted for your computer only.

My networkcard isn’t supported, my printer is not supported, my modem is not
supported, and my 100% soundblaster compatible pice of shit soundcard is…
guess what, not supported.

Get a new network card, I’m getting all my stuff new if I have to

Try the US$29 Bay Networks Netgear FA310TX. It’s 10/100, supports full
duplex, and the tulip driver from QNX4 supports it. Otherwise, see
http://www.qnx.com/ for a list of supported hardware and pick up the
pieces they support.

I was also very frustrated by this, but as a small niche developer, it’s
hard for QSSL to get specs for manufacturer’s boards that are detailed
enough to write drivers to. And considering the sheer volume of choices,
it’s hard to write drivers for everything. And it’s hard to get vendors
to write their own drivers for any OS that doesn’t cover 95% of the
market, so only M$ Windoze gets a driver for almost every piece of
hardware out there. And M$ says that they are not a Monopoly and don’t
hurt the industry or consumers. Our frustration is the evidence that they
are and they do.

Remember, this is not even a released product yet (still beta). Be patient.

For an OS this young QNX is the biz !

I got sound, printer, modem , net first time round no probs

Altho I can understand your frustration . . . . .

I cant write drivers either and have to wait for the talent to
come up with stuff . . .

I think its worth the wait dont you ?

After all, do you really want the Microsoft bank to look after
your money as well ?

… port the LINUX sources to QNX RTP.
(I hope that the DDK for QNX RTP will be available soon (?))

BTW … a new network card costs just a few bucks. What’s the problem ?

You have also the same game with WinCE or NT4 ( + the specific service packs)
E.g. just to run a new piece of software for NT4 … I had to install the
service pack 5 or greater (lots of MBytes to download).

I have never seen such a version dependency with QNX.

Hummmm? I think getting a more friendly OS makes more sense,
When are these alternative OS developers going to learn, the first thing
that needs to be provided is a GUI in wondows that assists on writing
drivers for us folks out hear willing to test other OS’s,
Teach a man to fish … etc.
Wich is why my biggest beef is the 32 fat file system hard drive support.

Maybe we need a Bill before the Trade Commision demanding a full

blueprint of specs of any new hardware manufactured!
That aught to fix Bill “D” G"r"ates’s ass. (:-Þ

Well clearly your 100% soundblaster compatible isn’t.

Nope, but I dont care, how much is a Soundblaster today?
A few $, an I could spend them on less healthy things…

Ok… Since everybody is urging me to buy a new network card. Here are
the two reasons I canoot buy a new network card. 1. I cannot afford a
new card. 2. All of the cards and the router are all the same
brand(linksys). And so the best I can do is wait for the patch. For all
of you who helped me, thank you.
