Booting problem

Hi
I have a problem booting RTP from it’s own partition after a
reinstallation of WIN98, which probably overwritten a QNX boot
code in a partition table. Is there a possibility to fix this
without reinstalling RTP ?

If you have linux and lilo installed, you can sure boot

using it to boot my QNX4 on second disk all the time.

Yes, this is possible with lilo and every BIOS
which allows to change the search sequence of boot
devices. I haven’t seen until now a standard PC
BIOS which
allows to select the second hard disk as boot
device.

Haven’t tried RTP though because my second disk is SCSI
and unfortunately RTP doesn’t support SCSI, belive it or not.

Ups …

During the primary installation both my harddrives are recognized.
So i tell the program to use my secondary harddrive,

You can’t boot from the second hard drive …

SCSI is of course supported:

http://qdn.qnx.com/support/hardware/platform/filesystem.html

several possiblities:

  1. the document is out of date, or it has forward thinking
I am sure future releases of RTP will support SCSI.
  2. maybe only the public release CD of RTP doesn’t support SCSI,
    private releases may do.
  3. maybe only my old Adaptec 2940 is not supported, though I am
using it with my QNX4 partition for more than 3 years.

someone from QSSL has to comment.

RTP doesn’t support booting from SCSI. The next patch will address this.

RTP doesn’t support booting from SCSI. The next patch will address this.

When/where will this patch be available? I’m holding off installing
RtP because my whole system is SCSI based.

that explains why I couldn’t boot the CD (I have a SCSI CD drive).
but after I made a floppy boot disk and booted from it, the installer
still couldn’t see my scsi CD (as the source) and scsi HD (as the
destination). this made me believe it doesn’t support SCSI at all.

If I knew that, I would have included the info in my post.
