I’ve finally could install QNX on a dedicated partition (using a IDE cdrom)
but i’ve a problem with the boot loader. I normally use System Commander
2000. I’ve try to install the loader with the first option (on the MBR) or
with the second (using a boot loader like lilo, …). But it crashes always
: I can read the message “Press ESC for alternate OS.” And a “C” appears and
it stop…
What could I do ?

Why??? is your life already too peaceful that u want a couple of extra
pains???

NOTHING!!! you have already done what it takes… u have left no stones
unturned to screw up things… the qnx boot loader has overwritten parts of
system commander
anyway keep these things in mind… (they are result of my experience gained
handling 5 operating systems wildly different from each other on the same
hard disk…)
never trust ANY boot loader 1) If you have a boot loader in MBR… dont
touch it unless u are damn sure what u are doing 2) keep the silliest OS
handle the booting… (yes this is true)…
so now to recover follow the following steps… 1) anyhow get the system to
previous state… ie along with system commander 2) install qnx in a separate
partition and DO NOT load the boot loader in MBR… just load it in the
partition 3) configure the system commander to load the qnx boot loader from
its partition… 4) even if you dont like it consider formatting the
partition as fat32 and install qnx under windows giving the size as of the
whole partition… (since u must be having windows because u r using system
commander… this shouldn’t be difficult…) and dont be concerned… qnx
boots not windows… so installing under windows or isolately are IDENTICAL
plus u gain extra stability… when it comes to file system errors… as far
as my experience was with 5 machines i’m administering in 2 of them qnx is
installed in windows and in 3 on separate partitions… the ones installed
under windows are more resistent to file system errors due to power supply
etc…
Good Luck, dont worry your system will be alright… write me back if u face
any difficulties – Keep Smiling

So your other OSes still working, with System Commander, right ?
I am using system commander starting QNX all the time.
Is the QNX partition on first HD ? The default QNX loader is not
handling second HD. I have to patch the loader to make it work.

I am having the same problem using LILO. How does one go about
patching the boot loader (I presume you mean the QNX boot loader)?
Actually how can I boot QNX when it is installed on the second hard
drive?
Thanks in advance
Daniel

Ok, it’s the problem. QNX is installed on the fourth partition on my second
