Corrupt Boot Licence Install Disk

My question: My company bought QNX 4.25, and the install disk with the
licences is corrupted. (I get a Bad Disk message). Can I build a similar
disk myself (withing neutrino?), and add the licence numbers I have on my
certificate? If so, how? I can’t read anything off the original disk.
Thank you.

Victor,

(presuming you are using qnx 4.2x)

the license disk is in either boot disk format or license only.
it sounds like you only bought the disk, which only contains a encrypted license.

type license at the prompt with the disk inserted.

i.e.
→ license

it should add the qnx license to your /.licenses file.

If you have the Product Suite CDROM you
can boot off the CDROM for a new installation, then
enter the license number by hand from the certificate.
Be carefull that one’s(1) and el’s(l) are hard
to differentiate.

Brian,
Actually, I’ve got both types of disks, and the Product Suite CDROM. One
disk is a “Boot, Install, License Disk” (1 node licenses) which, initially,
I could boot from. We also bought an additional license (separate
non-bootable) disk for another node license. I’d like to re-create the
bootable license disk if possible, or get a replacement from QNX.

Thanks for your help,
Vic

Vic,

So does the disk now fail to boot?

You cannot mount the bootable disk, it will show a message:

mount: mount() of /dev/fd0 failed: Corrupted file system detected

this is valid for a boot disk.

you can copy it by doing a raw copy of the disk.

do not mount it, just copy:

i.e. cp /dev/fd0 /tmp/boot.disk

then format a floppy (do not dinit it tho’)
then copy

i.e. cp /tmp/boot.disk /dev/fd0

if the original no longer boots then someone probably moved the writable tab on the diskette
to the wrong position.

if you just want a boot disk with no licenses it is on the All Products CD

/cd/qnxboot.144

just copy that to the floppy.

If you need a replacement you should talk to your sales rep who originally
sold you the software.

hope this helps

Which serial number part do you enter? I tried this here the other day and
it wouldn’t enable the QNX 4/ Photon 1.14/TCP boxes in the install.

I got a license certificate from QSSL.
