CDMA, PC-104 (486) and QNX ?

Any help would be appreciated here:-

I’m building a PC-104 device that will connect via serial port to a CDMA
wireless modem, and interact with landline systems via PPP packet
connections.

I want to know the following:

  • Does QNX 6 run on 486 boards (stripped down to bare basics that is).
  • How small/large a footprint do you need just to run ppp, serial,
kernel and some data capture apps (no gui).
  • What is approx cost of those software components given we’ll start
with 20 such devices. (is nto/rtp for sale yet?)
  • Where is some documentation on doing this.

I’m very familiar with QNX 4.2x, but for the prototype the choice seems
to be Linux or Neutrino, where my own preference is Neutrino, but I
don’t know enough to prototype this quickly enough - and a
colleague/competitor is already working towards a linux solution.

Anyone used CDMA before? we just use it like a modem at the moment -
which is fine given the PPP stack can be handled by the OS.

cheers
Lance

yes

It would fit into 512K.

Single quantity RT should be about $300 but you should really talk to sales
to find out.

What documentation? All you need is custom boot image with ethernet, IP/PPP,
serial driver, shell and pdebug probably. Should not take more than one day
to figure this part out, there are suitable examples in the online docs.

Communicating via serial port is probably much like you’d do it in Linux.
There are also modem-related functions, but I don’t know if they apply to
your hardware.

It could be, of course. Not sure about authentication (CHAP in particular)
stuff though, I never used PPP on NTO since I have cable modem.

That’s way off.
Please check with

in Australia for pricing and advice.

Way off which way? And why aussies should have final word on this, lol?

Well, Lance works at ECONZ, which is in Auckland, New Zealand (where
I came from - Hi Lance!)

And the Australians are the nearest QNX dealer.

Okay I did not mean you saying aussies aren’t authority for this
But I thought I was talking to Alex who is in South Africa apparently.

I don’t know what’s situation with pricing in Australia and South Africa,
but back in Europe distributors used to only make available those
products/packaging which they could charge a small fortune for
