Religion: QNX Neutrino vs. XP embedded / Venturcom RTX

Folks,

I know that this query will likely either engender war or apathy, but
I’ll take my chances.

Have any of you folks seen any Competative Analysis ivolving any
applications of these 2 platforms? I am also soliciting any personal
observations one is willing to offer-up on the matter.

Thank much.

Sincerely,

VirtualSean

What would be the point of a competitve analysis? They are not the same
thing, they do not serve the same needs at all. You will not succeed, for
instance, in putting the XP product into a deeply embedded, flash
memory-based system. Alternatively if you just want to add minor
enhancements to some PLC-based factory system, XP will certainly have better
tools available. To make this kind of thing into a side-by-side comparison,
where would you start.

As an engineer it is up to you to decide the tools and environments best
suited to fit a particular task, and to avoid religion and using hammers to
turn screws.

But if you would like to read some very detailed technical reviews of QNX
and VenturCom as well as some good general articles, you might try to
contact dedicated-systems experts on http://www.dedicated-systems.com.

Yes and no, they can overlap. For example QNX6 support SMP.

XP embedded scales very well. Not as low as QNX6 but more
then most people would anticipate.

I agree, you first have to establish some requirement first. For example
you need support for USB 2.0, well there isn’t much to compare as
it’s not available with QNX6 (doesn’t mean you can write your own stack).
