Install problem with Momentics NC and Ultra100 controller

Hi,

I am attempting to install Momentics NC in it’s own partition on a Gateway
700MHz Pentium III. The computer has several devices on the mobo IDE
controller but the hard drive is on a Maxtor (Promise) Ultra100 IDE
controller. Sometimes the boot floppy makes it to asking for partition info
but 90% of the time it dies at the point it prints out:

Detected EIDE. Scanning for devices.

After that line the booter prints out a whirlygig {/,-,,-} but quickly
stops and is hung. I have not figured out how it sometimes gets past this
point. Any help would be appreciated. Please don’t suggest I move the hard
drive to the mobo controller since this system is also my main development
computer running Win2K and I need/want the higher speed disk channel.

The second problem I am encountering is if I do get past the scanning for
devices, the booter then cannot seem to find the CD drive which has the
installation CD. This drive is on the mobo controller and it does appear in
the list of devices that is printed out.

Thanx for any help,
Dave Goodwin

I have the same problem on my system, although I’ve never seen it pass this
point myself. What I do is press the spacebar to select boot options, then
press F11, then F5. This disables the scan for other disk controllers, which
seems to be what’s locking up the system.

Maybe there’s another boot option that will help you with this? I haven’t
had the problem myself.

Hope that helps.

I had the same problem on my computer and my DVDPlayer and CD burner seem
to cause that problem

I set the option “boot with a plug and play OS” to yes and it solve the
problem. Perhap it was and interrupt conflic

Yes, I have a DVD drive and CD-RW burner in this system as well. I tried
changing the BIOS setting both ways for Plug-n-Play OS and it didn’t make a
difference. Maybe I need to disconnect one of these drives to get it to
install.

Just to let everyone know, I followed both suggestions and got QNX
installed. To get past this problem I had to disable the scan for hard
drives (F11,F5 at boot) and I had to remove my CD-RW drive so the installer
could find the DVD/CD drive. When I had both CD drives in it didn’t matter
what I selected: cd0 or cd1. Either one, the installer would indicate it
couldn’t find the file it was looking for on the CD. IMHO, QSSL should look
into these issues since first impressions mean a lot to a lot of people. I
am past that and on to my evaluation. Thanx for the help.
