QNX Licenses

I currently run QNX 4.25 (latest and greates patches)
From what I have read from the this area is that
a cd burner is not support (as far as writting to a CD).
Is their any possible way I could write a license file to a CD. For
instance, I have a machine that does not have a floppy drive.
I also currently boot between Linux (Lunar distro), Windows 2000 Pro, and
QNX.

TIA!

Correct.

From QNX directly, no.

If your windows 2000 is use a Fat32 filesystem, you could use mkisofsys
under QNX to create a CD Rom filesystem, then copy that file to the
Windows partition, then boot windows, and burn a CR with that image.

Or, you could copy the license file to the windows file system, rather
than making the ISO under QNX, and burn a CD including that file.

But…the license files for QNX 4.25 are just text files…so you could
hand edit one on the QNX system, too, if you wanted to. (That would be
ok for a one-shot, but not a production level.)

Some of them have a ‘/etc/licenses’ directory that requeures the license
command to be used.
and some of them have a ‘/.licenses’ file.
I don’t understand why some of them would have a .license file and others
would
use the /etc/licenses
Would you happen you happen to know why?

Thanks!

I also do not have the mkisofsys. Is that under QNX Neutrino?
I have checked QNX.com and under patches/updates
it says something about it. I can mount an iso9660 by using
iso9660fsys.
Thanks

I have found that ya have to do some searching
to find this file. I have also found that Linux
can read QNX4… I also heard that there is a conversion
utitlity to convert old licenses to new licenses
(IE: /etc/licenses to /.licenses)

Thanks for you help.

Where can I find this utility? I have many old style licenses that I’d like
to convert.

We changed how we shipped our licenses. If I remember correctly the
change from 4.22 to 4.23 was the watershed. Previously they were
special files in the /etc/licenses directory, and they couldn’t be
backed up, and they couldn’t be copied. (Well, they could… but
they were created with a trick in the filesystem that normal utils
didn’t reproduce.)

Post 4.23 they were /.licenses files, and they were just plain ordinary
text files. They could be backed up, restored, moved around etc.

I spelled it wrong. It was mkisofs.

Available from:

ftp.qnx.com:/usr/free/qnx4/os/utils/misc/mkisofs-1.05.tgz

In fact, I’m not sure they are convertible from one to the other.

IIRC, if you have upgraded legally to a version 4.24 or better, they
may convert give you new licenses if you send in the old licenses or
such. talk to your sales rep/ISR

Someone I work with mentioned that he heard
something about a form of a conversion utility
however I have yet to be able to find it.
QNX claims that they are not changeable.
I believe that thier is a way to convert them,
it’s just a matter of finding the algorithm for each.
And if someone had the time (and money?)
to figure this out, then it might be possible.
Since you bought a license, I would also assume
that it is legal.
I believe what happened (as far as out licenses go)
is that we use/used the old licenses and didn’t
have a reason to go to the new style licenses until
recently. Which is why 95% of our licesenses are still
in the old form. If I find a way to convert, I shall post
here and share the news

I don’t know if I should speak, but there is a way to convert.
the conversion is not the way you think of it (/etc/licenses → /.licenses).
The conversion is /etc/licenses → /etc/licenses, but the file
content is converted from the QNX proprietary format to the normal
files. This way, you can just copy them as normal files, and write
them on a CD… Even better, the qnx license utilities (nameloc)
will see those license files as proper license files and use them happily.

Frank

Where would I get this conversion program at?
or where would I go about reading the process
or dong the conversion?
