Is official QSSL support for IEEE-1394 planned?

Does QSSL intend to properly support IEEE-1394
under QNX 6 in the future? Previous press releases
from QNX indicated such an intent, but all that’s
available now is the Mindready low-level driver.

I’ve purchased the Mindready SedNet 3 package. It’s
a very low-level package, more suited to VxWorks than
QNX. It’s not a QNX resource manager. It’s not a
protected-mode driver. It doesn’t provide all needed kernel
level code; it requires the user to write kernel
level callbacks. It doesn’t interface with the
QNX /dev directory or the autoconfiguration system.

Clearly, this is a specialized package, which the
vendor admits. It’s for deeply embedded automotive
applications, not a mainstream solution. Will there
be something more generally useful for QNX in the
near future?

More to the point, can QSSL afford to be left
behind in device support?

Best thing to do is talk to your QSS sales/support person and voice
your opinion through the offical channels.
