Weird problem with pine

Under QNX 4.25…
After years of trouble free use of pine as my email client,
it has developed a strange behavior. If I run it on the
system with my mail server, it hangs for about a minute at
startup. No menus appear, and then it works fine. This same
behavior does not occur when I run pine on another system
linked to /usr/spool, nor does vmail have a problem.

I’ve checked and it has nothing to do with what is in the mail
file. When pine is hanged it is receive blocked on a proxy.

This is just an annoyance. Has anyone run into this and/or
have a solution. The version of pine is 3.91 and it was last compiled
in 1996.

Could it be a timeout in connecting to a nameserver? (Just a wild guess, I
assure you, but perhaps that’s better than nothing on a weekend, eh

Try telnet’ing to your mail server via POP3 port, and login/examine your
mail spool. Are there similar latencies involved?
