netmap entry rejected

I’m trying to add an entry to my netmap file. The line reads:

" 3 1 000D0B7 AF9A85"

All whitespace characters are spaces. But I get back:
netmap: Net rejected ’ 3 1 000D0B7 AF9A85’

I get the same message if I type:
netmap -m" 3 1 000D0B7 AF9A85"

The line above is almost the same. It reads:
" 3 1 000D0B7 3FB7F8"
and it works just fine.

My Net* command lines are:
Net -n2 -Te2000 &
Net.ether82557 -s100 &

and the sizes & dates are:
Net 35894 Jul 27 1998
Net.ether82557 48371 Jun 17 1998
netmap 15517 Mar 15 1996

What does the output from ‘licinfo -a’ say?

Hi Hugh,

I have more than enough licenses. Right now 37 “qnx” licenses on both
nodes. And while we’re at it, nameloc is running on both nodes. The nodes
in question are #1 & #3.

I do see something that I’ve never seen before. We have 2 “qnxm” licenses.
I’m new here and have no idea what this represents.
I do see however that “sin in” claims that I have 39 licenses. Does this
have something to do with something?

Looks to me like “000D0B7” is the culprit. Too long!

You cannot have 13 digits for a node id. Try 00d0b7 3fb7f8.

Sorry All, the tripple zeros “000D0B7” are my fingers fault. The netmap
file has “00D0B7 AF9A85” and that is what I am typing by hand.

And the problem still exists.

Unfortunately, I can only access news from a WinDoze box and I have no way
to cut from QNX and paste onto WinBlows. Sorry for the typo.

For a start, you seem to have told Net to only allow a maximum of two
entries in its netmap table, which is a pretty drastic override on
a system that has been configured with a 37-node license. If you
already have an entry for node 1 and node 2, Net will reject any attempt
to create more entries since its table is full. As to why one version
would work but another doesn’t, it seems most probable at first glance
that perhaps this was due to there only being one netmap entry present
at the time you tried the 2nd variant?

Please post the results of ‘netmap’ if it doesn’t start working when you
omit the -n option or specify a larger number (try -n where
nodes is the number of nodes your network is licensed for).

Blush !

OK. I knew about the -n option to Net but never thought that we were using
it here. I have no idea why we are using it here. But that is obviously
the probelm.

Thanks Eric
