Should it be possible to configure samba (2.0.7 with the security
patches in QNX loaded) so that long filenames in QNX look like normal
filenames when viewed in Win98 explorer? I am sure it must be possible
(mangled filenames are such a pain that I am sure somebody would have
fixed it) but I can’t seem to coax samba to pass long filenames without
mangling them.
Any clues as to which parameters I should be looking for?

The fix is at hand. It turns out that I was using the wrong protocol. I was using
LANMAN1 and using NT1 has fixed the problem. The wierd thing is that I don’t recall
changing this. I have since noted that wheel mice can do unexpected things and change
things which you may not notice.

Are you using swat to configure samba?

Sure. I have noticed when using SWAT to configure samba (SWAT is the
web-browser interface that configures the smb.conf file) that sometimes when
I use the wheel on the mouse to scroll the page down in the browser (which
is a normal browser function) it actually doesn’t move the page but cycles
through options in a given selection box.
I’m not suggesting this is a bug or anything, just a trap for the unwary. I
haven’t played with it extensively to get a handle on when it scrolls and
when it selects. I suspect it has something to do with where on the page the
mouse is when you twiddle the wheel - I also suspect that it does not
necessarily line up with what is intuitive for me.
Sorry I am not being more helpful. If you need more information I will go
back and have a play and report more sensible details.
