CANNOT understand mount_smb error message!!

We recently tried to mount a WIN/NT folder on the QNX 4 using mount_smb and
got the following error message:

Mount failed: No message of desired type

Does anyone know what this error refers to???

Thanks

K. H. Fung

K H,
Not sure what that error means exactly, but I’m running a Win2k machine and
have my QNX box smb mounted fine. What I have to do to get it to work is
have an account named “guest” in my user lists. The password for guest can
be blank (that’s what I do). For your shares, you must have the guest user
in the permissions for the shares to be able to access them AND have the
file permissions set for guest. I didn’t have file permissions set for
guest, it would let me mount the directory, but I couldn’t access any files.

I hope some of this info helps

We have used mount_smb on several WIN/NT systems and didnot have any problems
with user and file access previlege after we set the user and password.

Unfortunately, all the WIN/NT pc systems belong to our remote customers, so it
is nearly impossible to know how their WIN/NT network setup is.

In summary, we have nearly all working in the remote sites. But this error
popped up from a site that had the smb working, but quit one morning…

It is mystery…

When ever something WAS working and THEN stopps, someone changed something.

Find out who changed what.

Correction: Whenever something WAS working and THEN stops, there is
probably a Microsoft machine involved.

I stand corrected! You just can’t argue with the facts.
