Can anyone advise me on the correct/best/preferred way of formatting and
mounting a Zip disk in an internal Zip drive.
I have previously formatted the disk under Windows !! and then
dinit -h /dev/fd0
mount /dev/fd0 /zip
and then used it as a native disk
I do not need dos compatibility

I presume that you have an EIDE ZIP disk. The only way I
know of to do a lower level format on a ZIP disk in an EIDE
ZIP drive is to boot into Windows and do it there. This
lower level format actually just tests the media and
reassigns bad sectors from some extra good ones. The
actual formatting of these disks takes place on special
hardware available only at the factory.
