Hello.
I have been attempting to setup a Dell computer to boot 4 different OS’s
using Boot Magic with a 19 GB drive:
Partition 1: Windows ME ( primary partition ), 6 GB
Partition 2(extended):
Linux ext2 (/boot), 16 MB, logical partition
Linux ext2 (/), ~3.8 GB, logical partition
Linux swap, 128 MB, logical partition
Partition 3: QNX 4.25 ( primary partition ), 4 GB, from June 2000
Product Suite
Partition 4: QNX RTP ( primary partition ), 5 GB
I can boot WinME, Linux, and QRTP with Boot Magic, but when I attempt to
do so with QNX4, I get the following from the boot sequence:
“Press Esc for Alternate OSC”
So, it appears to see some aspect of the QNX boot process, but locks
up. When I was installing QNX4 to the partition, I unselected the
install boot loader option since I didn’t want it to overwrite the Boot
Magic loader. Is there a way that one can install the boot loader into
the partition itself as opposed to into the Master Boot Record (which I
assume is the default action)? I had thought that one can boot QNX4
from any partition if one had a boot manager that can do this, so I am a
little confused. Besides, I had it booting using Boot Magic from the
2nd primary partition, so I am suspecting that this is a 1024 cylinder
boundary issue.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have a similar setup (my QNX partion is where your ME one is however). I
let QNX load everything then I re-loaded BootMagic.

Well this is all from memory since the two machines I had these configs on are
not available for me to look at.
I believe I had QNX 4 on the first partition, then Win98, then WinNT then Linux.
I don’t recall the size of the disk or the partitions - sorry. I just used
Partition Magic to create them one at a time and then let each OS think they
owned the machine by hiding the other partitions. Load Microsoft’s OS’s first -
they tend to destroy other OS’s during installs -esp NT.
Do a search of QNX’s knowledge base and deja.com for other help also since my
memory may be faulty in this area. I believe Linux and part of NT can exist
above 1024. (NT requires a C partition below 1024 to start the boot process).
Maybe someone else can fill in my gaps.

partition. But, to clarify, are you suggesting that I activate the boot
loader under QNX4, so that it will overwrite the MBR and then you
re-instate Boot Magic?
