Status of QNX Windows?

What is the status of QNX Windows - is it still a supported product?
(please: no “dead parrot” jokes…)

And whatever happened to the release of “QNX Windows using Photon video
drivers” ??

Thanks!

Warning not from QSSL.

It’s supported in the sense that you should get answer to question.
The way I see it, it’s extremely unlikely any new features will be added.

I think SciTech is the prefered option.

Thanks!

Where was that announced?

Go to http://www.qnx.com/products/prodrelease.html#Download (July 11, 2000)

Scroll down to “QNX Windows 4.24” and read the last line.

So… when might we actually see it?

I don’t think you will. Noone I know of is working on anything like that.

Don’t get me wrong, I love QNX! But this is typical QSSL Vapourware. One only has to go back through ‘QNX News’ to find many examples of product announcements that never see the light of day.

Then why the hell was it announced? And not just once, but several times. And
not instead of SciTech, but in addition to it? (see same release notes). Stuff
like that gets people like me (senior corporate management) really pissed off.
And we’re the people who have to select/approve long-term strategic directions.
Crap like this really tells us that we can’t trust QSSL. So perhaps you could
explain to me again why you’re pouring tons or resources into a new platform,
when we can’t trust you to ever finish it.

Probably a senior corporate manager changed his mind and forgot to tell the
marketing manager.

Getting back to technical level, what is the problem with having SciTech
driver instead of Photon driver?

I think you are talking about “gr.phi”. I have been using it for several
years. It works quite well for me. Unfortunately, it was only distributed
with the Qwinph package, which has been in beta for…um…about 3 years
now…

Scitech is probably a better solution now, but technically I guess Qwinph is
still in beta so I suppose you could still download it…

And here I thought TCP/IP 5 was the record holder for lenght of beta. But at a
mere two years, it’s a piker compared to gr.phi. Well, we keep on hoping.

Scitech is probably a better solution now, but technically I guess Qwinph is
still in beta so I suppose you could still download it…

Sorry for the delay in responding, Mario; my Win98 system crapped out on me and
I’ve just now got Win2K running smoothly. Like molasses in Inuktituk, but
smoothly.

Anyway, SciTech tells us that the release of Display Doctor for QNX is no
longer current, and that its up to QSSL to update it. We’re, umm, not holding
our breath. Actually, we’re accelerating the phase-out of our QNX Windows
products, which is probably exactly what QSSL wants.
