AHA7 vs AHA8

Since my original posting “Backup problem using DDS4” did not elicit any
information I am looking for some input to aha8 vs aha7.

I ran a test using a Adaptec AHA-2940UW card and a Fujitsu MAJ3364MP 36G hard
drive. I created two boot
images, one using Fsys.aha7scsi and the other with the aha8. Both bring up the
file system but the mapping of the drives
are distinctly different (fdisk). The aha7 maps the drive with 255 heads, 63
sectors & 4443 cylinders. The aha8 maps
64 heads, 32 sectors & 34854 cylinders. Far, far different.

It would by my impression that without mapping a small boot partition, that
switching mid stream to the aha8 driver
could be dangerous (boot partition > 1024). Is there any input on this? What I
am trying to do is to get a complete
backup to a DDS4 tape drive. What is the preferred driver for the 2940UW card?

Thanks

The aha8 driver isn’t honoring the extended translation setting from
the SCSI BIOS. I will make sure the driver gets fixed for the next
BETA.

Both drivers should work. What problems are you having?
