shutdown -b

I am running QNX 4.25 and when I issue the “shutdown -b” command I am
wondering if I should get a message telling me “its safe to power down.”
If I don’t get this message and the system is unresponsive to the keyboard
and mouse, should I just wait a period of time (10 seconds) and then power
down. Would this mean all the processes that want to catch the SIGPWR
signal has done so, with any cleanup needed performed and then finally the
filesystem has been shutdown.

Thanks,

Paul

The shutdown command should output information on when it’s safe to power off.
Whats probably happening is that you’re issuing the command while in photon,
so all the messages sent to /dev/console are not being seen. You can redirect
what terminal /dev/console points to, or just issue the command outside of
photon.

I am not able to issue the command outside of Photon because when I goto the
QNX button in the bottom left corner and select Shutdown, the system freezes
up. What do you think of using the “phshutdown” from Photon. I haven’t
found a lot of documentation on it yet but I am still looking, thought I
would through it out there.
