We are using the ditto utility on QNX 4.25 to attach a local console to a
remote console on our equipment which resides on a pole. The equipment has
a serial port and also a TCP/IP port. I have a few questions on the
limitations of ditto.
-
We noticed that if a person is using the ditto to view the remote console
from a telnet session on say a machine A, another person cannot use the
ditto utility from a telnet session on say a machine B to view the same
remote console. After giving a ditto -k /dev/con1 on machine B on the
telnet session nothing happens. Is there any way to get around this
limitation?
-
We noticed however that two persons can use the ditto to view the same
remote console from a TCP/IP session (using telnet) and a serial session
(using hyper terminal) at the same time.
Why is that the case?
-
How can we set up ditto so that we can view multiple consoles and also be
able to use vi on all of them?
-
Is there any other alternative to ditto on QNX 4.25? When can I read
more about ditto other than QNX utilities reference?

What do you mean by TCP/IP port?

I’ve tried to reproduce this problem. I currenlty have 3 telnet session
from 2 different machines, plus a local one all dittoing the same console
without any problem (telnet under Windows has some problem with
the terminal setting though)

Maybe you are missing pseudo terminals, try starting Dev.pty with
more consoles, -n16 for example (the default is -n4). You might
have to increase Dev supported devices as well

Not without Photon,
When can I read more about ditto other than QNX utilities reference?
In the manual.
