PCI NIC for 4.25

We usually use single board computers with integraeted NICs or a 10Mbit
NetGear ISA bus card, so have never sourced an PCI NIC card. Can anyone
recommend a PCI 10/100 card which is currently available ?

Intel Speedo (82557/8/9)
D-Link DFE 530TX

I had exactly the same problem yesterday

I ended up buying a NetGear FA311 from FutureShop for CDN $25. nettrap
found it and selected the Net.ns83815 driver. It seems to be working fine
(but I haven’t done exhaustive tests).

I found the whole process very frustrating though. The QNX supported
hardware list is pretty much out of date - i.e. you can’t easily buy any of
the NIC’s on that list. At FutureShop there were 5 brands/models for sale:

Linksys NC100 (uses Broadcom? chipset, therefore no good?)
SMC 1244TX-CA (don’t know)
Microsoft MN-130 (don’t know)
Cicero (no model number) (don’t know)
NetGear FA311 (didn’t know, bought it anyway and it seems to work).

The price varied from about $15 to about $45, but none of the boxes
mentioned which chipset they used or listed QNX compatability. The sales
staff were completey useless (big surprise there - it was FutureShop after
all).

I bought the NetGear unit because I’ve been pretty happy with their other
products (switches, hubs) and they had the longest list of supported OSes
including Novell Netware, SCO Unix and Linux, so I thought the odds were
pretty good.

The point I’d like to make though, is that it would be nice if “someone”
i.e. QSSL, published an up to date list of reccommended hardware, so that us
poor users aren’t left guessing.

Cheers, Tristan.
