Sorry to usurp your thread Enrico, but…

Has the “security fix” (ucrypt instead of qcrypt) been applied to the recent
update releases (OS & TCP/IP)? I searched through all the release notes and
didn’t find any mention of it.

I also just updated a test system form 4.25E w/ the Ucrypt security fix
installed to 4.25G… and I wasn’t able to login afterwards. I used the
altboot back door to gain access and noticed that ‘login’ was dated Mar ??
2000 and the ucrypt/security fix version is dated Apr 26 2000… so I copied
the ucrypt version from another node and all is well. Are there still two
different upgrade paths… 3 years later?

Yes, it sure looks like that is what is required, if one upgrades to 4.25G
and wants/has the ucrypt security fix and/or Tcp/ip v5.0.

QSSL… Any plans for a security fix upgrade? Or word that none of the
utilities in the original security fix have changed?

I’m looking into this right now. Gdf&^%*(^ security patch!

So far it doesn’t look like any of the components in the security patch have
been updated, what happened is that we backdated one (login) as a side
effect of how the patch process works. I’m trying to figure out a clean way
to fix it that works moving forwards…

For now you can either copy the April 26 2000 copy of login back to /bin (if
you can find it), or reinstall the security patch.

I can’t install QNX 4.25 patch G on my system!

I downloaded the upgrade files and when I started phinstall from my Product
Suite CD (Jul 99) I could see the list of packages on the CD I’ve installed
on my host.
I selected File–>Source and then the file to install (qnx-4.25-01G.tarx).
At this point I could choose between two command buttons (Scan or Cancel);
both brought me back to the list of packages on CD I’ve already installed!

Help!

Thanks.

From here you need to select “scan archives”, then you need to look at the
list of patches available for tciip, and select the new patches then select
“finish”.

Note: you must be loged in as root to do this.
Note2: If you have installed the security patch (it will show up in you list
of products and show if it’s installed or not) you may wish to wait as we’re
investigating to see if we have over written any componens from thsi patch
by mistake.

NOTE: These could also be a problem with the tcp/ip 4.25 patch D and the
security patch, we’re looking into this right now as well.
If you are running TCP/IP 5.0 there shouldn’t be an issues.

Stay tunned.

You totally voiced my thoughts here. I have these *.tarx files here which
are completely useless to me without phinstall. I contacted my sales rep
in the Netherlands for advise on how to proceed two weeks ago. The
individual promised to get back to me, but I’m still waiting…

All I need is phinstall. (Of course if QSSL would just package it in *.tgz

wondering why I don’t have phinstall in the first place: all of our 170+

April 26th 2000 /bin/login is the one from the Security patch. size is
24060 cksum 2752494219.

Installing the QNX 4.25 Patch G should have installed the March 02nd 2000

The old login (March 02/00) would be incompatible with the TCPIP 5.0 ftp,

Hmm… I can’t find a login that size anywhere!
That ftp is correct for TCP/IP 5.0, which should only work with the new
crypt files anyway.
Have you also applied the TCP/IP 4.25 Patch D?

I did a pile of testing yesterday and I think the best way to straighten
things out is to use phinstall to un-install the security patch, then
install patch G, then re-install the seurity patch.

Do the same for TCP/IP Patch D if you installed that. Note: something is
not right for teh tcp/ip security patch reletive to phinstall, it shows a
patch A subcomponent. If you remove teh sub component you don’t reall do
anything, instesad, right click on the green box with te + sign in it, and
select delet, then start, and teh TCP/IP security patch will be
un-installed.

We’re doing more testing on this and will change the install instructions
before enabling downloads for these patches again.

Sorry everyone for the inconvenience, I guess we should have tested on
machines with uaser accounts and passwords!
