Last November we set up three Latitude 1600x1200 screen C840’s to run
QNX 4 with Photon.
The Net.ether905 driver works fine with the 3Com 3C920 controller.
Our application does not need 3-D acceleration; for us the Flat driver
works satisfactorily (1600x1200 with 16 bit color).
We do not use sound in the QNX application and have not tried it.
We have had no problem with the floppy drive or the CD.
We had almost problems at all but at one point we updated the BIOS (from
A02 to A06). At that point they refused to boot into QNX from the hard
disk - they would boot fine from the floppy. The other OS’s booted OK
from the hard disk (these laptops were set up to triple boot - QNX,
Win2K, and Linux). The solution was to install the “old boot loader” on
the QNX partition of the hard drive.
The other area which you haven’t mentioned and we haven’t really tried
is a modem. The internal one is “controllerless” and will not work with
QNX (or Linux either for that matter). A suitable pcmcia card would have
to be found if you need that.
We did install the QNX pccard driver but have thus far only used a
Kingston Data Drive with it (for file backups).

Yes, Hugh is right that it has not been tested and I don’t believe that it
is on the compatibility list. However, the Net.ether905 driver is the one
that it picks up when I issue a “nettrap start”.
Can’t remember about the video, other than the installation thought that the
“flat” driver was the compatible one (seems to work fine from my vantage
point). Yes, it does have a serial port and parallel port. It has a CD
drive built in on the side, and the floppy is a removable module in the
front. All seem to work fine.

Does Net.ether905 driver works with the 3C920 10/100 integrated 3Com
ethernet in the Dell Latitude C840?
No, this has not been tested.
and also the NVIDIA GeForce 4 440 Go Graphics supports PhotonGUI? Does
have 9pin serial port , parallel port and an internal floppy and cd
Pl tell us as we r going to purchase the same laptop.

The Dell Latitude C840 is an excellent choice, although I haven’t
investigated the sound card issue either.
I would tend to agree with Martin - getting the sound card to work
probably be very difficult.

Compaq armada M700 ( accelerated graphics and network card work very
soundcard doesn’t… ) I doubt there is notebook with working
QNX4 ( maybe alsa driver could help ).
QNX 4.25, Photon 1.14, TCP/IP 4.25 installed.

Can you suggest a notebook guaranteed to work with QNX4.25
network interface card and soundcard?
I am looking for answers like "yes, I have QNX4.25 installed on
it works ok", rather than "I don’t see a reason for it not to work
anything as long
as it’s on compatibility list".
Thanks in advance,
