qtalk

Hi, guys:

When I use qtalk in QNX4 to dial into other system, sometimes I got the
error saying “host_route lost…” and I was thrown back to my local machine.
I did not lose the connection because when I use the same command to dial in
to the system again, I can get back to it without hearing the modem
connecting noise. It is really annoying to have this problem.

Anybody run into similiar problem? Anybody know how to fix it?

Thanks

Sylvester

What is generating this message? qtalk doesn’t have such a message

(strings /usr/bin/qtalk) nor does any qnx errno produce this message. So
it is most likely something at the other end.

I guess it is related to my network (configuration or package installed),
since no this problem when using other QNX boxes to dial in.

Is there any manual or database I can check this error message? I could not
find this from qnx.com.

This sounds to me like a TCPIP related error.

Not really.

Is the modem on your local Qnx PC, or is it on another Qnx PC on your
local network? That error sounds like you are losing the connection on
your local network, between the two local Qnx PCs, and not the outgoing
modem connection.

Thanks MC.
The modem is on another QNX PC.
What could be the problem that can cause the loss of connection?
Thanks

Any number of things. As Mario mentioned, it sounds like a TCP/IP

disconnection, so it could be your ethernet boards, cabling, hubs,
drivers, etc, etc.
Instead of using qtalk across the network, how about ditto’ing to the
other PC where the modem is located and run qtalk on it instead? Then if
you have a network issue, only the ditto session is involved and not the
qtalk session.
