PPPoE and Symaptico with tha famous D-Link card

So as I understand (excuse my english, i’m french) I cannot use my ADSL with
QNX ?
Couldn’t live without it now.
I dont have enough money to buy a router or whatever. Just wantin something
that let my OS doing PPPoE, no one of us is enough wise to do this ?

I think that QNX is strong enough to stand in the middle of MS-OS and Linux,
instead of BeOS, but convince me, I cannot do anything without internet in
QNX.

Thanks

You have no choice. You need either a hardware router OR another machine
with PPPoE to act as a gateway to Sympatico.

Get an old 486 for $30.00. Get two cheap ISA network cards for $20.00. Go
to http://www.coyotelinux.com and download it. You will need Linux to build
the CoyoteLinux distribution floppy. Once you have the floppy and
everything is working, you can get rid of the keyboard and monitor and you
don’t even need a hard drive for the machine. Then hide it under your desk
or in a closet somewhere.

Once you have the old 486 set up as your gateway you can say goodbye to
Access Manager and PPPoE concerns altogther. You will be able to run any OS
no matter if it supports PPPoE.

That’s what i was thinking, I need to buy for 100 bucks (canadian ones) of
hardware to go on internet with a free OS.
I’ll continue with Windows and Linux (for wich i haven’t spend anything
except 5 or 6 blanks cds) as long as i will need to buy something.

Thanks
Orbik^_^

Well, there MIGHT be another option. The Roaring Penguin client for Linux
may work if ported. Who knows. I assume someone might come up with a
solution soon as there are alot of PPPoE usres.

If ported ? what that expression mean ?
I cannot believe that no one could build a PPPoE client like the Linux one
in the whole bunch of persons in this newsgroup.

Try something someone please

Ported means to take a program and rebuild it to work on another platform.

I am sure there are those capable of coming up with a PPPoE client. But
it’s a matter of if they want to. I would suspect that many QNX users are
the type that would have a router or a computer set up as a gateway and
wouldn’t need to bother creating a PPPoE client. I mean, the amount of
money to set up an old 486 as a gateway ($50.00) and the performance/memory
savings/stability saved by NOT having to use Access Manager or similar is
worth it.

I think i have the same problem. My cable (@home) runs when my pc boots into
windows. When i boot into qnx, my modem doesnt recognize my pc is turned on so
it wont even connect to my cable isp. I dont think theres anything u can do
about this =[. I guess ill just have to uninstall it =.

You probably shouldn’t be having problems with @HOME as it doesn’t use PPPoE
or anything unusual. It sounds like your network card isn’t working. What
type of card do you have?

Have you configured your network using the Network Cfg
application?

Well im using a 3com3c90x ethernet adapter. And it should be working with qnx. The
issue is that my modem doesn’t initialize itself when i boot into qnx. My cable
modem has 3 lights. One for the power, one for the cable line, and one to see if the
pc is on. To have cable working, all three lights have to be on. But in qnx, only 2
lights turn on.

I tried to type in my DHCP server into the network cfg. But it always gives me an
error code when i press ‘apply’ and/or ‘ok’. And the dumbest thing is that it only
takes in the first settings when i first booted into qnx. I can’t change the things
i put in unless i uninstall qnx…

So im not sure if im doing the wrong thing, or my cable just doesnt work with qnx =\

thnx if u can help!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPS !!

Hold the phone,
The commercial version is now free,
that version runs on win 95 or better.
Because it’s free the support or future development of it will be limited.
But for now it works fine.
