RTP

Is it possible to install QNX RTP to a clean harddisk from stratch or does
it require Windoze to be installed and run the install program from Windows
side?

Leon

Yes it is, set up your BIOS to boot off CD-ROM, insert QNX RTP CD in and
reboot/reset your system.

As long as the hard-drive you are installing to is an IDE, not SCSI(installation
unsupported at this time).

I haven’t seen any replies to the people asking wheather the installation
can be started using a floppy instead on machines that can’t boot off
a cdrom.

I might actually use this myself since I have a small farm of old boxen
back north. I’m just still being a little critical about RTP and seeing
if it really is worth anything.

Nothing is impossible. You might need to install to one machine
to create a custom boot image which will contain the components
that you will need on a floppy in order to start the process.

If the boxes have a network connection and are diskless then
something like these steps in your floppy boot image would
work fine:

initialize network
nfs mount remote filesystems
start package filesystem pointing at remote systems

Or if you have a disk in the boxes and a network connection
then you might want to do an initial boot to configure the
partitions etc, then copy the packages over to the local
machine. Once the files are on the local drive then you
should have no problem using the standard boot image.

Sorry this sounds kind of vague … I haven’t actually put
together an image that exercises this type of installation
(so it will be some trial and error for you) just yet.

Unless I read wrong, I am using Windows ME and I need a floppy to use QNX,
otherwise I cannot, and my BIOS doesn’t support bootable CD’s :frowning:

Installation? Nevermind, no idea. I just installed it from within ME, I had
to.
