is OpenQNX the right OS ?

Hi,
I’m planning to set up a PC dedicated to surf the Internet. Before downloading OpenQNX I have some questions for you:

  1. Is it possible to customize OpenQNX so the users can only use the browser and can’t modify anything else on the system ?
  2. Is it possible to have an automatic login to the desktop ? There shouldn’t be possible to change the boot options, services and so on
  3. Can I remotely manage my box ?
  4. where can I find a list of supportes wireless cards (PCMCIA and PCI) ?
  5. are there some viewers for major office applications’ file format (like .doc .xls and so on? ?

thanks in advance

Giuliano

By open qnx, I guess you meant the free version of QNX, a.k.a QNX NC (Non Commercial).

  1. I don’t think so.
  2. possible.
  3. you can ssh into the box and manage it.
  4. here is the supported hardware list: qnx.com/support/sd_hardware/index.html
5)abiword has been ported to QNX and can read .doc

As for #1), sure. Just setup a restricted photon session. Read the docs on pwm, and ph and set the proper environment variables and only run a single browser. Tada, restricted acces.

thanks to all for the quick answers. I’ll give QNX a try.
