Some more newbie problems

I just installed the RTP, and i’d like to install some development software and stuff. Started up the package manager, but i can’t connect to both predefined repositories :

“QNX WWW Repository” opens a window that says “Downloading repository information”. Well, i’m staring at the progress bar now for about 1 hour, but nothing happens.

install.qnx.com/repository just says “repository/repository.qrm : no such file or directory”.

Additionally, i’ve downloaded the isapnp package from QNX’s webpage, in order to get my AWE32 ISA PnP card to work, but the binaries don’t work. Some strange errors appear. Compiling it isn’t possible too, “make” complains about the unknown option"-T1".

And finally, i’d like to have my shelf to be always visible (always on top, uncoverable by other windows).

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the suppository problem might be with your Internot setup. You
got a firewall in there somewhere? Does Voyager work?

As for the ISA PnP thingie, where did you download it from? I believe PnP
is already supported by RtP, so my guess is you downloaded a utility
designed for QNX4. If this is so, then you’d get some bogus error message
about a comma or something (memory, failing… failing… What was I talking
about again?)

I have been running QNX for many months now and I just recently reinstalled
it and ran the Software Update and recieved the exact same error. Although
not even 1 1/2 or 2 weeks ago or so it did work and there was a HUGE patch
which had to be downloaded. I am just guessing that QNX is probably yanking
it temorarily and hopefully putting something even bigger and better in it’s
place. Let’s hope

Yeah, that’s pretty annoying.

There is another problem in which I absolutely cannot figure out. In
Windows 98SE, Win2K, Mandrake Linux 7.2, and FreeBSD 4.2 my 3DFX Voodoo 3000
card works PERFECTLY!! Whenever I (re)install QNX (which I have done many
times) or do a “crrtrap clear” I always, always receive the error:

<…tries banshee driver>
Alloc Memory Failed

and then it drops me into VESA mode. I know this card works and I purchased
it specifically to use it with QNX. That was a lot of money to dedicate to
an OS just to see the OpenGL and DVD work. Please help if you can. Thanks.

DVD has been disable because of licensing issue. As far as OpenGL aside
Quake III there isn’t much to see, and unless you have 128M you won’t
be able to see it in any decent way.

Actually, I am in need of finding out why my Voodoo 3 card doesn’t work at
all and what the error “Alloc Memory Failed” means and how I can help QNX
solve this problem. I have a PIII 700 system with 256Meg RAM, so I am not
so worried about running Quake 3. Can someone please help me? This is
really annoying as I am resorting to using Linux 100% of the time and I need
experience with embedded OS’s for a job I am interviewing for this spring.
Thanks.

Hi Ryan,

The Alloc Mem Failed issue is a message from the pci_bios. This should be
resolved in Patch A which should be available soon.

Please be patient.

Erick.

Thank You Erick!!

Just out of curiosity, I am leaving for Christmas break and I will not be
able to use my school network until the middle of January. Is there some
kind of “estimated” time, and I don’t even care how vague, this Patch A
should be released?

Again, Thank You for your answer, I really appreciate it.

Sincerely,
Ryan

Sounds like the suppository problem might be with your Internot setup. You
got a firewall in there somewhere? Does Voyager work?

Voyager works, as well as Vmail. Which ports are used by the package mgr?

As for the ISA PnP thingie, where did you download it from? I believe PnP
is already supported by RtP, so my guess is you downloaded a utility
designed for QNX4. If this is so, then you’d get some bogus error message
about a comma or something (memory, failing… failing… What was I talking
about again?)

Hmmm, yes maybe it was for qnx4.

My (ISA) PnP card isn’t detected. I’m quite sure isapnp could solve the problem, as it does in Linux. Is there an isapnp for the RtP?

| My (ISA) PnP card isn’t detected. I’m quite sure isapnp could solve the
problem, as it does in Linux. Is there an isapnp for the RtP?

There are a few rough edges in the package mangler still, which will hopefully
be fixed with the fabled patch A. I had to set up the mangler to use an HTTP
proxy, as the socks support which worked with Voyager failed with the mangler.
That’s about the extent of my expertise on that particular subject, sorry.

Is it possible that the PnP card is detected but there is no driver available
for it so the enumerator just passes it by? I haven’t used a PnP card for a
long while, and I’m not sure how RtP handles such things. Perhaps someone from
QSSL will be able to give you some better hints.
