lost root password

Hi.

I’ve installed RTP first day when it becomes available,
and played with it for couple days.
Now i have some time once again and want to continue
RTP journey.

Unfortunately, i forgot root password :frowning:

Is it possible to recover lost root password ?
“boot machine in single mode” or sth like this ?
Or just reinstall ? :frowning:

If you can login as a normal user you can change the root password due to a
bug in the first release of Qnx RTP.

login as user and open the file /etc/shadow in your text editer. If you use
ped REMEMBER to turn of the save stylesheet function in the preferance menu.

the /etc/password looks something like

root:omebicohdnet:0:0:0
username:ienusd39eneig:0:0:0

change it so that the string after root: become the same as the string after
username:
so it might look something like this

root:ienusd39eneig:0:0:0
username:ienusd39eneig:0:0:0

Save and restart. Now root wil have the same password as the user.

Or you could just hit the spacebar and hit F5 to enter safe mode
where you are root and all of the filesystems are mounted and
you can edit the files as you like.

I’m affraid it’s too early version for “F5”

But - after hitting ‘space’ at boot up time there is a list
of couple options.

Seems that most attractive is
“mount all partitions and start debug shell”

When everything (?) is loaded i see a “shell” (?)
but i found it very bare - i have discovered only
set,cd,pwd commands.

I can’t imagine how to cat or edit a file in such
environment :frowning: ( presuming i’m a superuser )

“can’t open /etc/shadow” when trying vi from user level.
