I’m not up on my QNX history but wasn’t QNX called Quantum once upon
a time? I don’t think that it stands for anything but it could have
evolved from “Quantum Unix” to where it is now (often pronounced
“cue-nix” as opposed to “cue-en-ex”). I’m sure some of the greybeards
around here will be able to enlighten you… Peter? Brian?
cheers,
Kris

The company was originally called Quantum Software Systems, Limited and
the product was originally called “QUNIX”. I still have a manual with
QUNIX on its cover and a C manual for it. This was circa 1982, before
QNX2. I believe QUNIX stood for “Quick Unix” or something like that. I
believe the Quantum name reflected that the founders were quantum
physicists gone bad (or good, depending on your point of view .
As I heard it, the product changed to QNX after a nice letter from AT&T
lawyers. The company name changed a few years ago for some marketing
reasons, I guess.
