WWW,FTP,SMTP,POP3,DNS,DHCP,NEWS,NAT under QNX?

Hi!
I’am absolute newbie in QNX and sorry for so stupid (lamer) question.
Our company have small local network with 70 users. Many of them connected
to Internet through single proxy server under Linux. Question: it could
possible build on single machine under QNX following servers:

  1. WWW
  2. SMTP (MX record on ISP DNS already written)
  3. POP3 or IMAP
  4. FTP
  5. DHCP
  6. DNS
  7. NEWS
    :sunglasses: Proxy or NAT
  8. Telnet

How about defence software like detector of ports scanning and antiviruses?
It possible to configure ports of network services on my own wish (for
example, Telnet on port 44826, news on 60258, SMTP on 8299 e.t.c.)?

Thank for patience…

Do you have problem with your Linux stuff? Yes you could do all that on QNX
but it was not really designed for this job. Unless you have specific
reasons to use QNX, I’d not bother (and I had lot of experience using QNX
like that). QNX is like BMW Z3, you don’t want to use it to move
furniture…

Privet!

Main reason what i think use QNX - this OS is not so widespread OS like NT
or Linux. Many not advanced hackers and simple hooligans (who using exploits
without understanding how it work) even don’t heard about QNX… I think
this is increase our security.
Of course, many holes have not OS, but software (like gaininig superuser
rights though crash of FTP-or WWW service). Therefore i would test, how QNX
will react on software crashes. But i need all this network services.

About BMW Z3 for move furniture. If BMW Z3 (QNX) and Heavy Truck (Linux)
cost is equal (for free) - then why don’t use it for move furniture? 70
users is not so heavy…

Hi,

I’m not sure you can increase your security by using QNX. Some of network
services you can find on internet, some services you will need to port from
Linux…
It’s a quite job.

I’m not sure Linux and QNX cost (license agreements) is equal.

Anyway, you will obtain a good experience in removing furniture by BMW Z3.

Regards,
Eduard.

Very well, indulge yourself. You obviously do not count cost of the time you
need to spend to get everything running, but what the heck… last time I
checked our time was still rather cheap in good old Russia

You’ll need to start with porting and getting together lot of stuff (think
of it as of mounting extra cargo bays on Z3). Keep in mind, you probably
will need more RAM than with Linux because QNX does not swap that much.

HI!

BTW, as for QNX, there are several examples - hackers are working for it .
Basic network encryption and ICA manager files already cracked. And you must
keep in mind many stuff in QNX still are beta state, and porting brings to
QNX new holes :frowning:

Sergey.

PS Sorry for my English.
