Macronix nic

I was happy to see the Tulip driver now supports Macronix 98715 chip I use
to connect to cable modem for Internet. The NIC is still not identified
during boot but I can slay/call io-net and load the driver which identifies
the card. However DHCP doesn’t work (netmanager error says unable to find
server) and if I use manual I can’t ping anything. Even my gateway shows as
down. I can see the modem leds show traffic in both directions but the
system doesn’t show incoming.
Nicinfo shows only transmitted packets (also shows media as 0 kbs/UTP).
If I try to pass Tulip the parameter for 10MB UTP the driver reports media
not present and reverts to Auto (most time it reports media as MII).
Has anyone got this NIC to work in 6.1? (how?)

Please provide more info:

What is the make and model of the NIC that you are using? Is it PCI or a PC Card?
What is the exact command line (arguments you use) when starting io-net?
Are you using the tiny or full TCP stack?
Can you provide the output from ‘pci -vvv’

What is the exact command line (arguments you use) when starting io-net?
Are you using the tiny or full TCP stack?
Can you provide the output from ‘pci -vvv’

  1. Verify that the board was seen by io-net by running:

  1. If nicinfo sees the card then do

What is the exact command line (arguments you use) when starting
io-net?
Are you using the tiny or full TCP stack?

Nicinfo shows only transmitted packets (also shows media as 0

If I try to pass Tulip the parameter for 10MB UTP the driver reports
media
not present and reverts to Auto (most time it reports media as MII).

Nway autonegotiation completed Media 10bT

Tells me that the card connected to the ethernet OK. Note, the connection is done internally in the Macronix chip & not
under our software control, all we do is wait for the status to come up.

There is one minor bug, we don’t update the nicinfo structure to reflect the type of network after Nway has happened.
This should be fixed for the next release.

It looks like the problems is with the obtaining a IP.
MANUALLY bring up dhcp (Note: Do NOT USE the photon version, instead use dhcp.client in a terminal) & check
to make sure that an IP address has been correctly received. If an IP is there, then try using ping, browser etc.

(ifconfig shows 0.0.0.0). I see the cable modem send led immediately
followed by the receive led. This repeats three times and in nicinfo I see 3
packets transmitted but 0 received.
If I set my IP manually along with gateway and DNS info I can’t ping
anything, not even the gateway without a server down message and 100% packet
loss. (Again I see both modem leds active).
Any other ideas?
