qcc compilers slower the gcc

Hi,

I know already that it is a known issue that the qcc is compiling slower
then the gcc, and I saw a lot of letters about it.
I’m now using the 6.1 release version and I still have this problem.

  1. does the qcc is suppose to be slower then the gcc on compiling time?
  2. what are the main differences between gcc and qcc
  3. what do I have to loose if I’ll use gcc instead of qcc on a ppc machine
    with qnxrtp ?

As far as I know qcc is just a front end to gcc. It may be using options
that slows gcc down (like full optimisation).

I can beleive something can be slower then gcc

QCC is just cover for gcc. However I think qcc tries to be ‘nice’ and runs
gcc with lower priority

qcc and gcc are just the driver program, the compiler is the same.

What you have heard about is most probably that the new Dinkum C++ library
compiles slower than the GNU C++ library.

Hi Benzy,

The qcc and gcc are just front-ends to the real programs. I’ve
heard something about qcc corrects an issue on gcc.
This issue happens because gcc gives too much priority to the real
compilers, so the driver (how is called gcc and qcc) may not be able
to pass information in time (or something like that), what was making
the compiler to crash in some situations. Qcc gives the real compilers
a lower priority, that’s why they run slower.
The worst thing that can happen when using gcc is a crash when
compiling, I think

Cheers
