WebCAM & Wireless LAN

Hi,

I have just installed the QNXRTP and it rocks! I am using QNX for a
robotics research project and I am wondering if any of you ever tried to
use a WebCAM (USB based) with QNX. Actually, any information about
camera with QNX would be great! (including IEEE1394 firewire cameras and
USB cameras, … ). Second question is about Wireless LAN, is there a
QNX driver for the CISCO Aironet Wireless LAN PC Card?

Any information regarding to the two questions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Lawrence

I’m not sure if these devices are supported. The supported hardware page
would be a good place to check it out:

Thanks

I wrote a couple of parallel port drivers for WebCam’s before USB
was common. When I was trying, it was a lot more difficult to get
specs for USB cams than Parallel port versions. I don’t know why.

I cooresponded with QSSL a week ago here and they indicated that they
had no such drivers yet, but that they were interested in providing
at least one.

A somewhat pricey alternative (>= $500) is one of the Ethernet Cams
that you can hook up. The biggest player seems to be Axis, but there
are others.

Hi,
As far as I know there are no drivers for the CISCO Aironet Card, drivers
do exist for the Lucent Orinoco 802.11b card and I am currently using it in
my embedded system.

Mitchell,

First, thanks a lot for the information. I have heard about the
difficulty in writing drivers for USB based webCAM. Can you provide more
information regarding to the QSSL developed driver? Specifically, if
they are planning to release a driver, what WebCAM would that be? The
AXIS camera are good but our project cannot afford such power
consumption. But it is nevertheless a very interesting alternative
solution. Thanks.

I can’t because I told you pretty much all that was told to me.

Hi Lawrence,

Right now we are looking into this, we don’t have a list of camera’s
yet unfortunatly or a timeline for this.

Erick.

Hi Worapat,

NOt sure what you mean, are you wondering if we are developing
any new drivers for wireless? or if you could develop a wireless
driver?

Erick.

Hi Erick,

Sorry for my poor english.

I would like to know that :

  • QNX team developing any new wireless lan driver ?

  • Can I develop a wireless lan driver by myself ?

ps. I have Linksys wireless lan. It can’t use the Orinoco driver.

Thank you,
Worapat

Yes there is a ddk availble to develop network driver.
The difficulty is to get the specification of the chipset.

ps. I have Linksys wireless lan. It can’t use the Orinoco driver.

Yes. Expect to see devn-prism.so sometime soon on developers.qnx.com.
This will drive Linksys, Dlink, Compaq, and many other types of cards.

Mario, did you learn your English by watching American TV? That’ll rot your
brain - at least the language centres!
Anyway your English is much better than my french - maybe I should spend
more time watching TV (french language, of course! not American!) ?

Mario, did you learn your English by watching American TV?

Yeah 50% of it, dude

The other 50% i got from working in sawmills, probably worse then
American TV. That’s were I learn to put in a few f words, here and there
, just to blend in, you know

If you really want to do that, send me a note I’ll give you a list of stuff
to
stay away from.
