Major video slowness batman!

Holy chronically challenged pixels Batman!

I just installed QNX RTP 6.1 on my “Asus Terminator” workstation. It’s an
AMD (Via chipset) Duron system, with a PCI Radeon video card.

QNX installed flawlessly, detected the Radeon, and all seemed well. That
is, until I moved the mouse.

The CPU meter then pegged itself at 100% and stayed there as long as the
mouse was moving. The pointer movement itself is quite jerky. I pulled the
Radeon and tried the onboard video (S3) with the svga driver. Same thing.
I then tried an ATI Rage XL board. Same thing.

It seems as though it’s running a VESA driver through molasses, but one
look at the process table and crttrap shows that it is in fact configured
and running the radeon driver.

Help! I’ve love to switch to this full time, but ugh… Can’t…
Stand… Pointer … Moving … Slowly…

(as an aside: I’ve also got a Sony PCG-R505 notebook that I’d love to
install QNX on. Problem is, the cdrom drive is firewire and the QNX
installer doesn’t recognize it. I also really don’t want to install Win9x
on this thing… So, anyone think of any way I can install QNX without
pulling the drive and doing the install on another machine?)

Never mind… On a hunch I unplugged my mouse from my Linksys KVM and
plugged it directly into my system, and the lag problems went away. What is
odd though is that the KVM affected CPU utilization - it would peg itself at
100% as if it was drawing a software cursor (and having troubles doing it).
Haven’t seen this behavior in other operating systems w/this KVM, only QNX.
Go figure.

Anyhow, all is well now.

Wha??

I’m using a Linksys KVM with two QNX machines - no problem here with mouse
movement.

Hi Guys. Let me ask what may be a dumb question.

What’s a KVM?

Switch box that lets you share Keyboard, Video, Mouse between multiple machines.

OK. I’ve used several of them. I just didn’t know that’s what they were
called.

I have noticed that often, if the switch isn’t set to the cpu while it is
booting then there may be problems if you try to switch to that cpu later.

The work around is to just monitor the system that is booting.
