Ask not what your pty communications manager can do for you, but rather
what you can do for it! 
It manages “pseudo” terminal devices – something that an application
can write to or read from. These are generally used for things like
when you telnet into a box, the telnet program allocates a pty for
you, and your applications (shell, etc) talk to the pty.
Look in the docs under devc-pty and you’ll see more…
