boot stalls

I installed on 2nd hd (2GB partition), without error.

When booting on this drive, it displays “Press Esc…” with about half a line
of …'s

Tried pressing Escape to get the non-DMA version, no success.

( drive 1 is Win98, with Partion Magic’s boot manager. )

Compaq Presario 4824, with addition of 2nd hard drive.

Drive 1 (6 GB) is formatted with 2 Win98 partitions, also with a boot
manager
Drive 2 (2 GB) had all partitions removed before the install.

I installed using the entire drive.

It’s a PII, 233, with 64MB RAM.

IDE CDROM is on the 2nd IDE controller



I have dual-booted Linux and BSD in the past, so I know this can be done.

I tried one of those and it installed fine from Windows. I
didn’t try a partition install.

So you tried both normal boot and the altboot (non-dma)
and both don’t work. Did the CD boot okay? It uses the
same boot loader.

I suspect we clobber this boot loader while loading.

CD boots fine, I’m using it to do the install.

I agree, but I’m not sure what to do about it. Can I make a boot floppy to
get things working right? Maybe I should rework my partitions to get RTP on
the first HD?


To be precise, all I see is “Press escape for alternate os
…” and then nothing. The HD light is lit, and I’ve
left it in this state for as long as 10 minutes with no progress.

When re-installing, it displays the following information about the
partition (since I had to delete the partition before re-installing)

I think this would be your best bet. That way, you’re using our boot loader,
and I know we don’t clobber that when we load.

I have exactly the same problem. That’s way I wanna ask you how did
solve the problem?
Did you create a boot disk? How do you start Photon and all the other
stuff from the hard disk if you boot from the floppy?

this is exactly what happened to me…how does one create a qnx rtp boot
floppy with no qnx?
