Booting problem

Hi!
I have this most annoying problem…
I’m very new to QNX, so this is the first time i tried to install…
but…
First i boot from the cd to install the boot files on a second harddrive…
it works perfectly, he find both me EIDE drives… so he installs, and
then reboots… then when i’m going to boot QNX (through PQ bootmagic)… it
says
Press ESC for another OS …
then after several … it just hangs… nothing happends for a long
time…
my comp specs are
PIII 450mhz,
128 mb sdram
20 gb drive + 2 gb drive (which i use for QNX)
sb live!
voodoo3 card
Does anyone know whats bugging me??? would be reeeally fun to
try qnx… !
thanx!

Read the other messages in this news group; you’ll find you have lots of
company. Generally, the problem is that qnxrtp doesn’t yet support some
aspect of your hardware. A SCSI hd controller card (though you say your hd’s
are recognized), a graphics card, etc. Another possibility is that qnx must
be installed below cylinder 1024. Another is that you need to specify, by
an integer, which hd or partition you’re using. I can’t give details, but
please read all the other messages in this section/newsgroup. Some of the
“subjects” are misleading. qnxrtp will eventually support more hardware.
See the supported platforms/etc at qet.qnx.com.

I have the same problem you do; in my case, qnxrtp doesn’t support my
Promise ATA66 hd controller card for a SCSI hd. qnx says a future release
will support more stuff.

I have read all other subjects, but none seem to work for me…
During the primary installation both my harddrives are recognized.
So i tell the program to use my secondary harddrive, and do a
partition that uses the whole disc, 2 gb in this case. Its ok, he creates
the partition, copies the bootfiles from the CD, and then reboots. When
I then try to boot QNX, it hangs as i wrote earlier… so i don’t know…
my hardware is kinda mainstream…
Thanks anyway

RTP doesn’t support booting from SCSI. The next patch will address this.

Shouldn’t one be able to make a boot floppy on another install to boot from
SCSI? Funny thing is that the conference CD would boot my AHA-2940 W system
although it took several minutes to “figure it out”.
