install problem on Compaq Presario

Compaq Presario 1200 laptop. Athlon K6 500MHZ. 6GB Hard Drive. 60MB RAM.

Right after installation, I reboot, and things go fine, until it gets to
the “generating helpviewer search database”. At that point, it gets
stuck. Stays that way for a long time, and I can’t type anything, press
ENTER, ESC, or even turn off the machine without unplugging it. I tried
installing it 3 times now. Once I even pressed the ‘ESC’ to boot into
the alternate OS image, but that didn’t work either. I’m thinking
there’s a problem with installing QNX RTP onto Compaq laptops? If so, is
there a way for me to fix this so I can install it?

There was no PCMCIA card or Ethernet.

If anyone would like to try duplicating my problem (for whatever
reason), this is how I did it…

  1. burn a copy of the iso image onto a CD.
  2. install it using ALL of the space on the hard disk.
  3. reboot when prompted to.
  4. watch the Booting process begin, and then the computer gets stuck
    while generating the
helpviewer search database (it doesn’t seem stuck at first, but you
    realize it’s stuck after
10 or 15 minutes of nothing beyond that point)

    Looking for Suggestions,

Did you succeed in this problem?

I was stuck at exactly the same point, though on an ACER EXTENSA 710T.

After reinstalling the stuff a few times, I checked out the kernel options
that are prompted for during the boot process:

Skipping the ‘Plug-And-Play-ISA’ thing helped in my case. At least the machine
is booting now. But I still have problems with the helpviewer: it often aborts
any keyword searches with the message ‘realloc error’ or so. This may be
a consequence of switch the machine off when it was stuck during the first
boot after installation, when the search database was somehow re-organized.

Question to the NG: Any expieriences with this kind of problem.

TIA,

Karsten.
